· Poem, "Lucy, a Song" : ca. 1808 (MISC 3755), fair copy. · To Catherine Bloomfield, his sister : 1 autograph letter signed : 31 Jan 1802 (MISC 0371), on his pride over his success and his responsibilities. · To Elizabeth Manby Glover, his mother : 1 autograph letter signed : 3 Dec 1804 (MISC 0370), on his 38th birthday, displaying devotion to his mother and admiration of her character. · To William Tooke, Jr., lawyer and promoter of arts and literature : 1 autograph letter signed : 7 May 1802 (MISC 3572), on his ailments and forthcoming Second edition. Note: The Pforzheimer Collection also holds two books formerly owned by Robert Bloomfield: John Clare's The village minstrel (1821), with Clare's inscription to Bloomfield, and the second edition of Clare's Poems descriptive of rural life and scenery (1820) Pforzheimer copy 2, with Bloomfield's signature mounted on the inside front cover. Robert Bloomfield, minor English poet, best known for his long poem The Farmer's Boy. His poetry was championed by Robert Southey, and his themes of nature and the common man initially won the approval of Wordsworth and Coleridge -- but Lord Byron and Charles Lamb were less than charitable in their assessments of his poetic worth.
